Global | One year on from SVB
Last March marked one year since the collapse of SVB, a milestone that began one of the largest episodes of banking stress in the history of the United States. With some structural issues still unresolved, especially in terms of supervision or liquidity, banks´ exposure to commercial real estate is currently under focus.

Basel Committee on regulation and supervision for financial inclusion
For the first time ever, the Basel Committee has issued guidance on regulation and supervision for financial inclusion. The draft Guidance builds on Basel's Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision and is intended to help supervisors and regulators around the world accommodate the fast-changing environment of institutions that are relevant to financial inclusion.

Financial Regulation | Setting in motion the Capital Markets Union
On Sep 30 the European Commission released an Action Plan on Building a Capital Markets Union, after a public consultation last February. This document provides a more detailed roadmap until 2017 and specific proposals in key areas like securitization and covered bonds. In 2017, the Commission will take stock of the progress and shed more light on the steps until 2019.

The leverage ratio as a macroprudential tool
On 25 June, the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) released a new chapter on addendum on macroprudential leverage ratios (LRs) to its 2014 Handbook on Operationalising Macroprudential Policy in the Banking Sector. It analyses the utility of embedding the LR to the macroprudential tool kit, especially as an effective complement for risk-weighted capital requirements.
