    U.S. Elections Chartbook. December 2020

    Summary

As we predicted, Biden won the 2020 presidential election. Gains among non-college educated white men edged Biden to victory in swing states despite a lower margin of victory among non-whites.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • Although this election saw the highest voter turnout since 1908, contrary to expectations, it did not result in a blue wave
    • Demand for conservative media and suspicion of fraud has dropped since election day. Nonetheless, around one-third of the electorate is doubtful of the validity of the results
    • Since the election, approval on the direction of the country has dwindled while that on the economy has rebounded
    • Although voters gave Democrats the presidency and the House, the latest polls & odds suggest the GOP will win Georgia runoff election resulting in a divided government
