    The Fed stops for now

    Summary

Several days ago, and for the third time this year, the Fed reduced the federal funds rate target range by 25 basis points to a range of between 1.5% and 1.75%. It is very unlikely that it will lower rates again in December.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • The views of the members of the monetary policy committee (the Federal Open Market Committee [FOMC]) have not changed in regard to its assessment of the most recent labor market or inflation data.
    • However, there is a minor change in regard to its assessment of business fixed investments and exports, having changed from "weak" to "remain[ing]" weak.
