Spain | Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Spain: an approach by Autonomous Communities

Greenhose Gas Emissions shows a high heterogeneity across countries. Spain has been lowering its absolute emissions and its intensity in the last years. This document analizes in detail available data for GHG emissions of Spanish Autonomous Communities (AC).

• High regional heterogeneity in GHG emission intensity: six ACs' (AC) is 50% higher than Spain´s, and three ACs' is 10% lower than the national average.
• Possible Kuznets environmental curve: emission intensity may have an inverted u relation with GDP per capita of the ACs: growing in the lower levels pf wealth, and decreasing from a given threshold on.
• Asturias, Castille & Leon and Castille-La Mancha show higher emissions that the ones that would correspond them given their sectoral Gross Value Added (GVA) structure. On the other hand, Madrid, Catalonia and Valencian Community are below their corresponding average.
• Intra-sectorial dispersion of regional emissions might have grown in the last decade.
