Key points
- Key points:
- However, from the first week of August, growth began to slow down and consumption levels have progressively converged to those of 2021, after having remained well above in the first part of the year.
- In addition, in the coming months, this slowdown is expected to continue, as indicated by the data on online spending in travel agencies and accommodation, which approximate tourist reservations.
- On the other hand, total tourist spending (domestic and foreign) was 33pp above 2019 between May and August (16pp more than between January and Abril). After a similar evolution of both segments at the beginning of the year, foreign spending picked up since May and compensated for the lower dynamism of the domestic one.
- Canarias, Aragón, Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha and C. Valenciana were the destinations that benefited the most: spending exceeded 2019 records by more than 33pp. On the other hand, in Madrid, Catalonia and abroad there was a less dynamism. The Balearic Islands and Madrid also recorded the greatest acceleration in spending compared to the first four months.
