Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in March 2025
Summary
The Big Data Private Consumption Index registered a yoy growth of 10.7% in March, accelerating from a 5.5% increase in February. The stronger growth was partly driven by two additional working days compared to the same month last year (as Easter was celebrated in March 2024).
Key points
- Key points:
- The increase in household spending occurred in a context where the labor market continues to show positive performance: higher formal job creation in the private sector, a decline in underemployment, and wage improvements in Lima.
- By spending components, March showed a generalized acceleration across all categories, except for Food and Entertainment, which saw a slowdown in yoy growth but still maintained positive rates.
- As a result, the Private Consumption Indicator recorded a growth of 8.6% in the first quarter of the year, similar to the previous quarter.
