Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in December 2022
BBVA Research's big data consumption index for Peru (inflation-adjusted spending with cards and cash withdrawals) slowed down in December to 3.8% (November: 8.9%). In 2022 as a whole, the index registered growth of 8.4% (26.4% in 2021).

- In December, card purchases grew 15% YoY, maintaining their share of total spending (around 42%). Within card purchases, the online channel again showed strong growth (31% YoY).
- By category, expenditures related with food, health, transportation, entertainment and beauty slowed down; and excursions and travel expenditures became more dynamic, while accommodation expenditures maintained its contraction.
- In the fourth quarter, BBVA Research's Big Data Consumer Index for Peru exhibited a recovery from the previous quarter.
