Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in August 2022
In August, BBVA Research's big data consumption index (inflation-adjusted spending with cards and cash withdrawals) increased by 3.9% (0.0% in July).

- By component, the growth of card purchases stood out, maintaining its share in total spending (39%). Within card purchases, the online channel registered high growth again and consolidated a higher share (45%; 20% in 2019).
- Beyond the acceleration registered in August, BBVA's Consumption indicator showed a marked deceleration in the July-August period, anticipating a moderation in consumption in Q3.
- Spending on goods related to: (i) food for domestic consumption, (ii) fashion and beauty, and (iii) pharmacies and drugstores accelerated with respect to the same period of the previous year.
- Spending on excursions and travel services maintained a strong YoY expansion, while lodging contracted.
- Spending on entertainment, restaurants and fuel slowed down.
