Peru | Real-time analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on consumption (up to June 28)
In June, the BBVA consumer index grew by 3.1% in real terms with respect to the same month of 2019. By components, card purchases grew by 55% in real terms (with respect to June 2019) while cash withdrawals fell 11%.

- The share of the on-line channel in total purchases was 40% (20% before the pandemic).
- Spending on foodstuffs, health and household goods and services continues to show a strong expansion. In addition, card purchases of items related to hospitality and tourism (tickets and excursions) approached pre-pandemic levels at the end of June.
- The recovery in spending related to transportation, restaurants and apparel is consolidating, while spending on services such as entertainment, bars, and beauty salons continued to partially recover.
- BBVA Research's consumption indicator shows that in the second quarter of 2021 consumption continued to improve.
