Peru | Growth isn't everything, but...

Although GDP per capita is not necessarily an indicator of social well-being, it is strongly correlated with improvements in people's quality of life.

• • Those countries with higher per capita income are those that enjoy better education, longer life expectancy, high protection of fundamental rights, among other positive aspects.
• • On the contrary, in countries that are at the bottom of the income distribution, child malnutrition, high levels of crime, oppression against minorities, lack of opportunities and a long list of problems that perpetuate a situation of social dissatisfaction are observed.
• • Some countries have shown us that it is possible to break with poverty and poor economic performance, even starting from very low and with everything against it. One case is South Korea, a country that was among the poorest in the world at the beginning of the 1960s, with a per capita income well below what Peru registered at that time.
• • Unfortunately, in Peru today we see that very few of the factors that should lead us to prosperity are present.
