Peru | Central Bank maintains monetary policy rate at 0,25%

    Summary

In December, the Board of the Central Bank decided to maintain the monetary policy rate at 0,25% again. The Bank renewed its commitment to maintain a strongly expansive stance for a prolonged period and revised upward its inflation outlook for 2020 yet again.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • The monetary authority now expects inflation at the middle of the target range at the end of this year and in the lower half of the target range (between 1 and 2 percent) next year.
    • The Bank also remarked on its efforts to provide liquidity and their impact on credit.
    • The monetary authority considers that the higher inflation observed in November is a result of transitory supply factors and that it will decrease next year due to weak domestic demand.
