    Mexico | Profile of Mexican migrants in the United States

    It is estimated that 12.3 million Mexican migrants reside in the world. 97.0%, more than 12 million, reside in the United States. This makes Mexico the second most important country of origin. 1 in 23 migrants worldwide are of Mexican origin.

    • 52.6% of the Mexican immigrants in the United States are men and 47.4% are women. In the last 30 years, there has been an aging process in the Mexican immigrants; the median age of men was 44 years in 2022, for women it was 46 years.
    • High school is the most common level among the Mexican immigrants, more than 20% have elementary school education or lower. 31% of Mexican immigrant men work in the construction sector, 20.7% of immigrant women work in educational and health services.
    • Two out of three Mexican immigrants in the United States live in California, Texas, Arizona, and Illinois.
    • Remittances are an important source of income for Mexico. It is estimated that nearly 66.5 billion dollars will enter the country in 2024, which will represent 3.7% of the national GDP. More than 1.7 million households, 6.1 million people, depend directly on these resources.
