In February 2023, the International Monetary Fund published a discussion note on public perception of some climate policies, using novel international surveys for 28 countries (30,000 surveys, including Mexico with 1,009 surveys).

- Only 16% of people in Mexico had heard of carbon taxes, 18% of emissions trading, 61% of regulation to limit emissions, and 64% of renewable energy subsidies.
- 56% support regulations to limit emissions; 58% support the implementation of carbon prices; and 69% to subsidies for low-carbon or renewable technologies.
- Half of those surveyed in Mexico believe that carbon prices could lead to higher prices and 54% believe that small businesses could lose from this policy.
