Mexico | Labor poverty at its lowest level for 17 years

The labor poverty indicator in Mexico was 35.8% during the first quarter of 2024, reaching its lowest level in nearly 17 years, specifically, since the third quarter of 2007, when it was 35.2%.

• Baja California Sur (16.7%), Baja California (21.7%), Jalisco (22.1%), Nuevo León (22.8%) and Colima (22.8%) were the five states with the lowest proportions of people in labor poverty during the first quarter of 2024.
• 20.3% of the employed population in an informal situation was in labor poverty, among the formal ones it was only 1.1% in the first quarter of 2024.
• There is minimal progress in reducing gender pay gaps. As of the first quarter of 2024, women earned an average of 74.8 pesos for every 100 pesos earned by men, 10 cents more than what was recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
