Mexico | How much do banks and BBVA Mexico contribute to financial inclusion?
This note analyzes the contribution of development banking, multiple banking and exclusively BBVA México to financial inclusion by analyzing access with infrastructure at the municipal level and analyzing usage, with information published by the CNBV, comparing the results of 2014Q2 with 2024Q2.

- From 2014Q2 to 2024Q2, coverage of municipalities with at least one ATM increased from 53.5% to 60.5% (7 percentage points, pp) and from 62.7% to 80.4% (17pp) with at least one Point of Sale Terminal (POS) of commercial banking. While these coverage increases for BBVA Mexico were 5.0pp and 27.3pp, respectively.
- Of the municipalities that had Point of Sale Terminals of a single bank brand (or of one bank exclusively from the total) of the multiple banking sector in the entire municipality (and without any POS of the development bank), from 2014Q2 to 2024Q2, there was a change from 273 to 297 municipalities that had only one bank brand in the entire municipality with at least one POS, of which 142 of those 297 municipalities were from BBVA Mexico.
- From 2014Q2 to 2024Q2, more than 99% of ATM transactions were made at multiple banking ATMs, and these transactions increased from 124.4 million in 2014Q2 to 732.6 million in 2024Q2, of which BBVA México contributed 20.0 million to 63.3 million transactions, respectively.
