Mexico | Financial prevention and population who needs caregivers

In this press article, we emphasize the need for early financial inclusion based on the results of the National Survey for the Care System, which contains information on the demand for care of the population with a disability or dependency; minors under 17 years of age; and population over 60 years of age.

• In 2022, 77.8% of the country's households had at least one person who belonged to population who needs caregivers and of the total population in the country, 45.2% belonged to this group: 4.3% with disabilities or dependency, 8.0% from 0 to 5 years old, 19.7% from 6 to 17 years old, and 13.2% from 60 years and older.
• Of the households with population who needs caregivers, 7.3% (2.2 million) made an average monthly payment of 1,800 pesos for care services, which represented a total monthly expense of 4 billion pesos (annual expense close to 0.2% of the GDP in 2022, with a moderate level of precision).
• Of the population aged 60 and over (without disability or dependency), 22.4% receive care and only 0.2% attend a care center such as residences or day homes for older adults.
• Of people with a disability or dependency (all ages), 61.5% received care and only 3.3% attended a care center, despite the fact that 33.3% required more time of attention or additional care to which they were provided at home.
