This observatory contains the update of remittances that was presented on March 1, 2024 by the Bank of Mexico and it contains information related to the levels of poverty of the population that lived in households that received remittances, with respect to the population in households that did not they received remittances.

  • In January 2024, 4,574.6 million US dollars in remittances entered Mexico, which represented a growth of 3.1% compared to January 2023, with this amount there are 45 continuous months of positive annual growth.
  • In 2022, at the national level, there was a higher proportion of poor or vulnerable people in households that received remittances (88.6%), compared to the proportion of people in households without remittances (72.2%).
  • In 2022, in 31 federal entities, the proportion of poor or vulnerable people was higher in households that received remittances, compared to households without remittances.
  • In 2022, in Oaxaca and Chiapas the proportion of the population in extreme poverty in households that received remittances was 14.9% and 22.8%, respectively; while this proportion in households without remittances was 20.8% and 28.6% (a difference of 5.9pp and 5.8pp, respectively).
