Colombia | Weekly update BBVA Tracker: Consumption and Investment. 5 November, 2020.

    Summary

Given the good dynamics of consumption in the last week of October, the whole month had a positive year-on-year growth of 2.7% after seven consecutive months of negative growth. For its part, we see that in October investment moderates the pace of recovery that brought between July and August.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • At the same time that the daily cases of Covid in the country are rebounding, household spending on drugstores is increasing.
    • In line with the greater deterioration of the labor market in Bogotá, there is a delay in the recovery of consumption in this city compared to the rest of the country.
    • In October, spending on restaurants and clothing reduced department and food stores' share of total spending.
    • The investment in machinery and equipment continues to recover in October while the investment in construction has a slight slowdown this month.
