    Big Data techniques used

Colombia | Weekly update BBVA Tracker: Consumption. 9 September, 2020.

    Summary

In the last week, consumption increased due to the beginning of a new stage of isolation in the country called "selective isolation". This allowed the opening of new sectors such as restaurants, gastrobars, air and inter-municipal transport and hotels, among other activities.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • Total consumption is on positive ground, driven by significant growth in goods. Services continue to be more affected.
    • In a week of opening to the public, the restaurants had a recovery of the same magnitude as that achieved in five months with restrictions.
    • With the reactivation of domestic flights and hotels we are beginning to see positive signs in these sectors.
    • The clothing sector was one of the sectors that benefited most from the new phase of isolation while e-commerce slowed down.
    • The recovery in consumption is generalized at a regional level, with positive ground in Pereira, Cali and Barranquilla. Bucaramanga and Cartagena continue to lag behind.
