    Big Data techniques used

Colombia | Weekly update BBVA Tracker: Consumption. 3 July, 2020.

    Summary

This weekly update analyses the consumption behaviour during June. We found that there is a 12 percentage point recovery in June consumption compared to the previous month. We can also see a correction in the consumption of goods after the upturn generated by the VAT holiday.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • Total consumption dropped 17% in June and recovered 12 percentage points from May's record.
    • In addition to the partial reversal of consumption after the VAT holiday , there is a negative effect on consumption due to holidays in the month of June
    • As a consequence of the June holidays, consumption in tourist cities shows a greater affectation than in the rest of the country
    • Fuel consumption, which is close to mobility indicators, makes it clear that cities that have recently recorded increases in the number of COVID-19 are lagging behind
    • In the regional heat map we see how the recovery is happening by department in the country. We are seeing more light than dark.
