    Big Data techniques used

Colombia | Monthly update BBVA GDP Tracker. July 15, 2021

    Summary

The BBVA GDP tracker allows us to measure the performance of economic activity in real time, including big data variables from transactions in BBVA Colombia. With the most recent data, we estimate that growth in the second quarter of 2021 will be between 12.4% and 14.3%.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • The Economic Monitoring Index (ISE) for May could fall between -0.7% and -5.3% due to the logistical problems resulting from the protests in April and May.
    • The decrease in activity is explained by a slower expansion of product supply, rather than by a decline in consumer demand.
    • In May, the most affected industrial sectors were those with a high share of production in Valle del Cauca.
    • During the second quarter, household consumption and exports led the performance of activity.
