Beyond Benidorm
BBVA Research has analyzed developments in the Valencian tourism sector for a number of years, and seen the important changes that it has undergone. The sector generates around EUR 16 billion per year (15% of regional GDP) and is responsible for 290,000 jobs (15% of total employment).

- This percentage is above the average for Spain as a whole and for regions like Andalusia and Madrid, making tourism one of the most important economic drivers of the Valencian economy.
- Furthermore, in 2019 the Valencian region welcomed a record number of visitors: 9.3 million, with a total of 30 million overnight stays.
- But where do these tourists come from? In terms of origin, over 50% of visitors to the region are Spanish residents.
