    Big Data techniques used

    Argentina | Real-time consumption monitoring (Aug 14, 2020)

    Summary

After the "Hot Sale" event, cards consumption returned to the previous month trend, a 22% YoY daily average fall in real terms. The changes found in shopping habits during the lockdown were incipient.

    Key points

    • Key points:
    • Our index showed its capacity to react in July, capturing a fall due to the strengthening of the isolation measures, especially in Buenos Aires, and on the other hand the resulting increase that resulted from the “Hot Sale”.
    • During the 08/06 to 08/12 week, the daily average variation was -22%, compared to the same period last year, showing a slight moderation compared to the -25% in July, before the “Hot Sale”.
    • Since the lockdown started, there is a marked change in the intraweek consumption, with an increase in purchases from Monday to Friday to the detriment to those made on Sundays.
    • Our consumption indicator matched very well with industrial electricity consumption. This result is a step forward in the search for a leading indicator of industrial activity.
