Rafael Ortiz Durán joined BBVA Research in July 2024, as an economist in the area of Climate Change.

He has two bachelor's degrees, one in Economics and one in Law, obtained in the Universidad de Sevilla,  where he acquired a basic knowledge of economics. These degrees were complemented with an exchange program in the University of Antwerp. Subsequently, he obtained a Master's degree in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets in the Barcelona School of Economics, where he learnt advanced tools for the macroeconomic analysis and econometrics, mostly focused on time series analysis.

Climate investment needs depend on both the definition of what is needed and the reference scenario for climate change. All in all, for keeping “net zero” within the realm of possibility there is a funding gap to close by both public and, mainly, private sources. Appropriate incentives for private funding are key.
