María José has previously worked as a lawyer in the Financial Regulation area of national and international law firms. In November 2022 she joined the Regulation and Internal Control area in BBVA's Digital Regulation unit.

María José holds a double degree in Law and Business Administration from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Regulated Sectors Law with a specialization in the banking sector from the Carlos III University.
