Javier Muñoz Gijón is a Research Analyst in the Spain and Portugal unit of BBVA Research, where he collaborates in the study of the situation of the Spanish economy, monitoring and forecasting key indicators and updating databases.

Previously, he was part of the Environment Department of the Spanish National Statistics Institute. There, he took part in an experimental project on the circular economy and sustainability.

He holds a degree in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with a specialisation in Economic Analysis. His interest in how economics drives people's lives and the mechanisms to address poverty, led him to pursue a Master's degree in Economic Development at the University of Sussex, UK, with a strong focus on applied economics and econometrics.

His main areas of interest include impact evaluation, economic policy, data analysis and development.
